Getting away on a group vacation can be an incredible time to make family memories or a fantastic way to celebrate with all your friends. But finding a venue that will fit your whole crew? That can present more of a challenge! Luckily I’ve found you the perfect large villa rental on Tortola!
We recently snuck away for a birthday staycation at Mount Healthy Villas – two beautifully appointed three-bedroom villas with space for up to 16 guests to stay comfortably. This makes them one of the largest rental properties available on Tortola and an excellent option for your next group booking.
(See more details on their website here.)
The lovely manager Gilda greeted us at the villa on arrival and took us on a quick tour before leaving us to get settled in and enjoy the afternoon. The beautiful heated pool and comfy patio furniture were calling us – so we were straight in for a dip! A heated pool isn’t a necessity in the Caribbean, but we appreciated it. The area at the top of Mount Healthy is cool and breezy, and the swimming pool gets a nice amount of shade, so the warmer waters were lovely. We could still enjoy a swim even as the sun dipped behind the hills and the pool lights came on in the dusky evening light.
We had arranged a private dinner through the villa manager before our stay, and later, as we unpacked and got showered and ready for our evening – the chefs were busily prepping in the kitchen below.
The kitchens are heaven for aspiring chefs (or professional chefs, for that matter) with expansive double fridges, large gas ranges, ample counter space and the full complement of Cuisinart appliances.
The dining room was the perfect setting for our special birthday dinner – with stately high-backed chairs pulled up to the large mahogany table. Light glittered from the crystal chandelier, and the highly polished glassware shone, ready and waiting for our wine. Gold chargers and white crockery set the stage for our delicious four-course meal. Pretty printed menus laid out to let us know what we could expect.
(We chose to eat indoors, but there is also plenty of patio dining space, should you feel like dining al fresco.)
Chefs Neil Cline and Meow Manasiri prepared a Thai-inspired feast, with a sublime curry coconut fish soup, jerk shrimp with Thai papaya salad and a choice of main courses – locally caught lobster linguine in a Thai green curry sauce or chicken breast with mushroom and oyster sauce, blue rice and crispy fried egg. Dessert was homemade local passion fruit ice cream with dark chocolate shards and a wafer-thin Thai coconut pancake with fresh raspberry puree.
Indeed the perfect way to celebrate with friends and enjoy the luxurious surroundings of the villa. We had stocked the fridge with our choice of beverages and got the BVI Monopoly out after dinner had been eaten and birthday cupcakes devoured.

Upstairs the spacious bedrooms have the same configurations mirrored in both villas. One large primary suite with a king bed and two en-suite bedrooms. One with a king bed and one with two double beds. The bathrooms in the principal suites are spa-like sanctuaries with oversized jacuzzi soaking tubs and huge walk-in showers with rainfall shower heads. A generous wardrobe has more than enough space for all your holiday outfits.
Later, we collapsed into pillowy-soft beds in the cool a/c and looked forward to another day exploring the island after a good night’s sleep.
I was delighted to catch an impressive sunrise the following day – the morning sun bathing the villas in warm orange light. It was the ideal opportunity to sit and enjoy my coffee in peace in one of the cushioned swinging chairs.
Later that morning we congregated around the large kitchen island – making breakfast, mimosas and our plans for the rest of the day! A little more relaxing poolside was in order before heading to Long Bay Resort, West End, for a leisurely lunch.
We loved how conveniently located the villas are on Tortola. An easy 10-minute drive from Road Town, less than 5-mins to Brewer’s Bay, 10-mins to Cane Garden Bay and around 25-mins to West End. It’s also only a minute away from the historic Mount Healthy ruins. This really maximised how much of Tortola we could explore, and made it the perfect base for our trip.
All too soon, it was time for us to pack up and return to real life – already dreaming of when we might be back!
Mount Healthy Villas are the only private villa in the BVI with a fully equipped spa room offering massages, facials and other treatments. Arrange your treatments with the villa manager in advance of your stay.
