Without a doubt, one of the top spots on any Virgin Islands holiday itinerary is White Bay, Jost van Dyke.
As popular with USVI day-trippers as it is with the charter boats and sailors, this stretch of white sand on JVD is a must-visit when in the Territory.
With several of our best known bars lining this stretch of beach, White Bay’s reputation puts it on some of the world’s best lists. (Votes for USA Today’s Reader’s Choice Awards for Best Caribbean Beach are still pending)
I try to visit every chance I get. Hopping on a boat and heading out to explore is one of our favourite things to do – and Jost van Dyke is nearly always part of the plan.
Here’s the thing though, I’ve got a new favourite lunch spot at White Bay, JVD.
It could be the sweet potato fries that lure me back again and again. Or their signature Delirious Donkey cocktail. It might be the friendly service from Ghe, Tina and the rest of the team. But whatever it is, Hendo’s Hideout has been our go-to for a bite to eat when we head to White Bay, ever since they opened in 2017.
The Delirious Donkey has quite the kick…
Judging by how busy it can get – we’re certainly not the only ones! The bustling waitstaff squeeze between packed out tables, carrying towering burgers and trays loaded with drinks.
Daily specials keep the menu fresh and varied. And I’ve heard great things about their dinner menu and sushi nights. Those are next on my list of things to try. There’s a little spot next to their fire pit that I think would be gorgeous once the sun goes down.
I told you those burgers were towering!
The shrimp tacos are my favourite and the rum n’ coke pulled pork is the top choice for my husband!
Like other bars on White Bay, Hendo’s Hideout has a selection of outdoor games including corn hole, a volleyball net and a giant jenga set – which is always fun after a few too many Painkillers.
Or, if that all sounds like too much hard work, you can chill out and let your lunch digest under one of their bright orange beach umbrellas with your toes in the sand.

We were there when they first opened. What a fantastic staff they have! I don’t remember if they had dinner yet but the lunches were unbelievable! There was not one thing on the menu we didn’t like. I have not been back to Jost since then but am looking forward to coming later this year. You will find us seated at the bar enjoying new drink recipes and food on the menu!

Fantastic! Fingers crossed you’ll be back there enjoying lunch and dinner soon! 🙂
They were just building it the last time we were there. We were booked to go back for 2 weeks December-january of 2018, but we all know what happened to that trip 😠 So we look forward to great drinks & food when we are there this coming December.
